Find the perfect balance between ‘legs in the air’ and ‘arse over tit’
One
Her first drink will raise her blood alcohol concentration (BAC) to about 0.03 percent. "She won't feel the effects for about 20 minutes," says Dr Elizabeth Epstein of Rutger's University's Center of Alcohol Studies.
She is... more likely to find you attractive. Research at the University of Bristol found that a woman's perception of you is influenced by alcohol in the same way yours is after 2 units - one pint of lager or a double gin and tonic. So if you can stay sober enough to pick them, the lookers will look on you more favourably.
Your move... Order some appetizers. The more she has in her stomach, the longer it will take for the alcohol to be absorbed. "Some women worry about calories, so they'll skip meals during the day to save ‘room' for drinks later that evening," says White.
Two
The effect of the second drink will be more pronounced than she expects. She'll just now be feeling the euphoria and relaxation of her first drink. "Her judgement is impaired, so having this drink so soon will seem like a better idea than it actually is," explains Epstein.
She is... ready for some bodily contact. The prefrontal cortex of her brain controls inhibitions and, according to the University of Helsinki, it is the dampening effect of booze on this area that accounts for her boosted sex-drive after two glasses of wine (4.5 units).
Your move... Switch to beer. The drinks most women favour - cocktails, wine or spirits with a mixer – tend to have a slightly higher alcohol percentage than your amber nectar. If she baulks at a bottle of Becks then suggest a game of pool. The distraction will mean she takes longer between sips of her Club Tropicana monstrosity.
Three
Is she's mixing her drinks, her BAC will rise to around 0.085 by the third round, negatively affecting her cognitive function. "The euphoria will start wearing off and she may become irritable if she's not having a good time," warns Whit.
She is... ready to go home. "People don't realise that much of the sexual impact of alcohol is psychological," says certified sexual educator Cory Silerberg. "Most people get drunk to relax enough to let go, but you can do this by communicating honestly with the person you want to have sex with about what you're after," says Silverberg.
Your move... Women tend to drink more in response to emotional distress or anxiety. Ask about her day while you're getting the bill and order her a coffee as well. It won't sober her up but it will slow her consumption of booze. Her BAC drops at a rate of 0.15 percent an hour - so she'll need a full five hours before she's back to a tee-total zero.
